Player injuries cost European clubs €3.45bn over past 5-years, finds Howden report
December 17 – The cost of injuries in elite European football is edging towards £3 billion, underlining the growing financial toll of an increasingly congested and physically demanding game.
That is the central finding of the latest Men’s European Football Injury Index published by insurance broker Howden, which tracks injury trends across Europe’s top five men’s leagues over the past five seasons. In total, 22,596 injuries were recorded between 2020 and 2025, carrying an estimated salary cost of €3.45 billion (£2.97bn),
