Cain Velasquez has received his sentence, and it’s much better than the defense asked for.

On Monday, the former UFC heavyweight champion received a five-year prison sentence after he pled no-contest in court this past April after facing several charges including premeditated attempted murder, felony assault charges, and other related gun charges following his arrest back in 2022.

The charges stemmed from an arrest back in February 2022 after Velasquez went on a high speed car chase going after a vehicle that contained Harry Goularte, a man accused of molesting his son at a daycare owned by his mother. Velasquez fired .40 caliber handgun rounds at the vehicle, striking Goularte’s stepfather Paul Bender, who suffered non-life threatening injuries, in the arm. The State District Attorney in California asked for Velasquez to serve 30 years to life in prison.

Velasquez also gets credit for time served.

Following the ruling, MMA Fighting’s Mike Heck and Damon Martin react to Monday’s breaking news. Watch the video above, or an audio-only version of the show can also be streamed below and on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever else you get your pods.
