Brazil presents the talkSPORT breakfast show with Dean Saunders[/caption]

Brazil was joined by Dean Saunders for the talkSPORT breakfast show on Thursday.

Welshman Saunders shared with the listeners: “I’ve just found out, everybody in the country needs to listen to this.

“Alan Brazil is not really Alan Brazil. His name is officially Alan Brea-zil.”

It has a heavy ‘E’ sound in the middle and shouldn’t be said the way us Brits say the country Brazil.

Brazil, 65, asked: “Who told you that?”

“You did!” Saunders replied.

Brazil joked: “You little fibber, I did not.”

Despite his denials, Brazil then revealed that it was a family member who told him the truth.

The former striker said: “There is somewhere someone said that to me, part of the family, and I’m like what, there’s no conclusive evidence of that.”

Sanders concluded: “Brea-zil. It just doesn’t sound right.”

And Brazil – who scored 70 goals for Ipswich in his heyday – is not the only former player to reveal his name is being mispronounced by us fans.

Arsenal legend and talkSPORT contributor Martin Keown revealed a few months back that he’s been the victim of the same thing.

The Highbury cult hero said his surname should be pronounced “Key-Owen”.

Keown told Hayters: “Key-owen is the pronunciation.

“My father worked hard to tell others and I kind of gave up on it because it was so difficult to get people to say the word.

“The Irish just say it. It just rolls off the tongue as it’s part of their dialect.”
