The 6 NFL teams we think could join the Packers in wanting to ban the Eagles' Tush Push

0 2

The Philadelphia Eagles’ famous Tush Push play — which involves Eagles offensive players pushing Super Bowl 59 MVP Jalen Hurts ahead in short-yardage situations literally by his buttocks — is not unstoppable. Even the Eagles don’t have a 100 percent success rate with its usage. But for the one NFL team that runs the Tush Push more than anyone (and more successfully), it certainly feels pretty undefendable.

This is partly why there’s already a new NFL proposal to ban the usage of the play. Surprisingly, it also comes from the Green Bay Packers.

According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, the Packers have drafted the latest official proposal to ban the Tush Push. It will likely be voted on at the next NFL owners’ meetings from March 30 through April 2, where it will need 24 of 32 owner votes to officially be banned.

I have some pertinent questions about this situation. Why would the Packers, of all teams, want the Tush Push banned? They don’t have a meaningful rivalry with the Eagles. They don’t reside in the same division, either. To my knowledge, there’s no hint of animosity between both franchises. It doesn’t add up.

Well, Packers president Mark Murphy has apparently made it his personal mission to get the play out of the league.

In a recent Q&A on the Packers website, Murphy said he would like to see the Tush Push banned. He is “not a fan” of the play because he believes there’s “no skill” involved and that it’s bad for the game. Unsurprisingly, Murphy cited an embarrassing NFC title game sequence involving Washington Commanders linebacker Luvu as an example of the Tush Push’s drawbacks to his ideal vision for the modern NFL.

Here’s my other question about this situation: Who else would have a motive to join the Packers’ charge to ban the Tush Push more than a month out from when its fate can even be decided? Because it’s going to need momentum to garner 75 percent of all available votes.

Let’s rank the likely main Tush Push ban partners here.
