New Report Sparks Rumors of Bears Reunion With Star Pass Rusher
The 2025 NFL offseason is in full swing, with the next major events being the NFL Combine and free agency. Pending free agents can begin negotiating with other teams through their agents on March 10, with signings and trades becoming official starting March 12.
The Bears are expected to focus on strengthening both sides of the ball, particularly in the trenches. One key priority is adding another pass rusher to complement Montez Sweat. While there has been much speculation about a potential reunion with star edge rusher Khalil Mack, NFL insider Jason La Canfora reports that the possibility truly can’t be ruled out.

This latest report adds more fuel to the growing rumors that the Bears could bring Mack back to Chicago, as speculation has been building for weeks.
Should the Bears pursue a reunion with Khalil Mack?
I’m fully on board with this move. At 33, Mack still has a few strong seasons left. Bringing him back makes too much sense—not just for nostalgia but for practical reasons:
- He previously played under Dennis Allen and fits well in a 4-3 defense.
- He can relieve some of the pressure on Montez Sweat.
- His age makes him a prime candidate for a short-term contract while the Bears develop a long-term replacement such as Austin Booker.
- He will be motivated by the unfinished business in Chicago, especially after the success of 2018.
- He was one of the league’s best run defenders last season, an area where the Bears struggled (bottom five in run defense).
- He is still a productive pass rusher, having 23 total sacks the past two seasons.
With ample cap space, the Bears could sign Mack while still having plenty of flexibility to add other key players in free agency.
