BREAKING: OU Lands Coveted Washington St. QB John Mateer in Transfer Portal
Oklahoma got their guy. Washington State transfer QB John Mateer committed to Oklahoma after jumping in the transfer portal earlier this week.
Mateer made the announcement on social media posting a photo of himself on a visit to Norman in 2020 saying "Praise God!! #BoomerSooner"
Mateer will have two years of eligibility remaining and is now reunited with his former offensive coordinator at Washington State Ben Arbuckle.
Mateer was the top rated player in the transfer portal. He passed for 3,139 yards last season on 65% passing with 29 touchdowns. He also rushed for 827 yards and 15 touchdowns.
The Little Elm, Texas native's only D-1 offer came from Washington State. The rest of his offers in high school consisted of FCS programs.
Mateer isn't coming to Norman alone. The Sooners also picked up commitments from UAPB WR Javonnie Gibson who had more than 1,200 yards receiving and nine touchdowns last season. OU also landed SIU receiver Keontez Lewis who found pay dirt five times last season.
