Jake Collier 'going for the kill' if Andrei Arlovski gets gives him the right opportunity
LAS VEGAS – For his 10 fights in the UFC, Jake Collier has alternated between wins and losses.
The good news about that is, he doesn’t have a losing skid. The bad news is, he also hasn’t put together a winning streak in more than seven years in the promotion.
But in January, he submitted Chase Sherman for his first first-round finish in the UFC, and now he has a chance – again – to put back-to-back wins together. To do it, he’ll have to beat a former UFC heavyweight champion.
Collier (13-6 MMA, 5-5 UFC) fights Andrei Arlovski (33-20 MMA, 22-14 UFC) in the UFC on ESPN 35 co-main event Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The main card airs on ESPN and streams on ESPN+ following prelims on ESPN2/ESPN+.
Collier said he thinks Arlovski has shown more patience now that he’s been in the sport so long, and that may have led to his current three-fight streak. But he also said he’ll be trying to take Arlovski out.
“I think everybody’s eyes will be open to me,” Collier said. “I think we’re going to have a good striking fight. If he starts throwing these lazy kicks … I’m putting him on his back. You guys have seen what I can do when I’m on top of somebody. That’s when I go for the kill. I’m not trying to ride this out for three rounds.”
