With all but one fight going to the judges’ scorecards on the nine-fight UFC Vegas 20 card, competition for bonuses wasn’t steep.
Just three fighters walked away with additional $50,000 checks on a fight filled with tactical, if lackluster, bouts that required little intervention from referees.
The night’s standout for action, a bantamweight rematch between Pedro Munhoz and Jimmie Rivera, took home “Fight of the Night” honors for a gutsy three-round affair. Munhoz tenderized Rivera’s calf early, but Rivera managed to hang in there and throw heavy leather. Munhoz wound up with the decision. The moral victory went to Rivera, who won their first meeting, for his toughness over 15 minutes.
Of course, disclosed bonuses are often accompanied by off-the-books pay handed out by the UFC. But in disclosed checks, the promotion had fewer to cut on Saturday night at UFC APEX in Las Vegas.
