49ers’ Breida clears concussion protocol after hit vs. Washington

Running back Matt Breida left the 49ers’ game against Washington with an apparent head injury, but has since been cleared to play.

After a five-yard run in the third quarter, Breida was taken into the blue medical tent on the 49ers’ sideline.

Breida cleared the concussion protocol, then received treatment in the team’s locker room after being poked in the eye. He led the team with 35 yards on eight carries when he left.

Breida’s injury came on the second play of a drive that resulted in a Niners field goal, the first score of the game.

In Breida’s absence, Tevin Coleman has gotten the bulk of the carries in the 49ers backfield and passed Breida up to lead the team in rushing yards.

Marquise Goodwin was also evaluated for a head injury after a collision on the first series of the game. He returned to the game but saw his playing time decrease after going into the medical tent.

This is a developing story — we’ll update with more information as we learn about these injuries.
