MLB fans roasted the Mets over their trade for Marcus Stroman
As we near the MLB trade deadline, most probably assumed that the New York Mets would be sellers. Sitting at 50-55 in a distant fourth place in the NL East and behind five teams in the wild card race, the Mets have little chance of making a run at October baseball.
So, what did the Mets do on Sunday?
They played the role of buyers. Seriously.
In a somewhat shocking move, the Mets acquired All-Star pitcher Marcus Stroman from the Blue Jays for pitching prospects Anthony Kay and Simeon Woods-Richardson — two of the Mets’ top 6 prospects.
Given Stroman’s contract situation (he’s on a one-year deal, facing potential arbitration), the Mets essentially dished out two promising arms for a talented pitcher to help them in a playoff race that they’re not realistically a part of. So, yeah, MLB fans weren’t kind to the Mets after this move.
