Mets option Kodai Senga to Triple-A; Francisco Alvarez returns from IL

The New York Mets optioned right-hander Kodai Senga to Triple-A Syracuse after a string of poor outings, the team said Friday, a move that required the pitcher's consent under his contract.

Senga, 32, has endured a rocky stretch since returning from a right hamstring strain in mid-July, posting a 6.56 ERA over his last eight starts.

An All-Star and runner-up
