Record-breaking performances highlight historic WBSC U-23 Men’s Softball World Cup 2026
The WBSC U-23 Men’s Softball World Cup 2026 in Sincelejo, Colombia delivered a statistically remarkable tournament, with multiple offensive records and a major pitching milestone rewritten compared to the 2023 edition.
Fans in Sincelejo also set new attendance records, both for a single game and for the tournament overall. The highest attendance was recorded on Opening Day, when 10,000 fans filled Estadio 20 de Enero. In total, across both venues, approximately 100,000 spectators attended the World Cup, establishing a new benchmark.
Argentina’s Khalil Luna produced one of the most dominant offensive performances ever seen at the U-23 level, setting new tournament records in several key categories, including home runs (6, previous record: 3), runs batted in (13, previous record: 8), runs scored (13, previous record: 8), and slugging percentage (1.579, previous record: .941).
New Zealand’s Tane Mumu also made history, leading a wave of record-breaking performances in plate discipline and baserunning, with seven stolen bases (previous record: 6), 10 walks (previous record: 8), and a .667 on-base percentage (previous record: approximately .600).
Additionally, Venezuela’s Yeferson Colmenarez set a new record for hit by pitch (4).
In the circle, Australia’s Jack Besgrove etched his name in the record books once again. After leading the category in 2023, he surpassed his own mark in 2026, recording 83 strikeouts for the tournament (previous record: 82). He also delivered one of the most dominant single-game performances in WBSC U-23 history, striking out 20 batters in a game, surpassing the previous record of 19 set by Argentina’s Juan Pepe in 2023 .
At the team level, Japan set a new record for runs scored in a single game (20) against Colombia, while Venezuela established a new mark for most runs in a single inning (12) against Singapore.
