Maiker Pimentel: Men's Softball World Cup Finals 2025 MVP award removed following positive doping test
The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) announced today that, in accordance with the WBSC Antidoping Rules, Venezuelan softball player Maiker Pimentel has been disqualified from all results, statistics and awards obtained from 12 July 2025 following a positive doping test, announced by the International Testing Agency (ITA), at the WBSC Men's Softball World Cup Finals held in Prince Albert, Canada.
According to the ITA, Pimentel “has accepted a three-year period of ineligibility” after testing positive for the prohibited substance stanozolol. The athlete was provisionally suspended by the ITA on 6 August 2025. His period of ineligibility runs until 5 August 2028.
In addition, all the athlete’s individual competitive results from 12 July 2025 are disqualified, including forfeiture of medals, statistics and prizes.
As a result, Pimentel has had the following removed:
- The WBSC Men’s Softball World Cup gold medal,
- The WBSC Men’s Softball World Cup Most Valuable Player (MVP) award,
- All individual statistics recorded from 12 July, 2025,
In accordance with Article 11.2 of the WBSC Anti-Doping Rules, the final standings of the WBSC Men's Softball World Cup 2024/2025 remain unchanged.
