Lesotho opens season with Women's Softball tournament
The Lesotho Baseball and Softball Association (LBSA) celebrated Women's Month with a Women's Softball tournament organised by the LBSA Women's Commission at Ha Mabote Police Playing Grounds in the capital city, Maseru.
Four teams participated: Parentos, Queens, Gladiators and B. Killers.
After a single round robin, Queens defeated Parentos in the final, 9-1. Gladiators finished third.
"The event was marking the opening of softball season in Lesotho and also the New Year of Basotho," commented LBSA President Tseliso Lemphane.
The Basotho New Year, known as Selemo sa Basotho, marks the end of the dry winter season and the beginning of spring, symbolising renewal and new beginnings for the Basotho people.
"The event was successful as expected," continued Lemphane. "Senior Women's Softball clubs participated in this thrilling event in celebration of Women's Month under the Theme: Embracing diversity and Celebrating Children with special needs."
Lemphane added: "The huge challenge that LBSA has been facing for over three decades now is a lack of equipment to run its tournaments and league games efficiently and effectively. The teams still rely heavily on a few gloves, helmets, bats, balls and catchers' gear shared amongst the teams during the games."
