Cajun Softball picks up run rule victory over South Alabama
LAFAYETTE. La (KLFY) -- Louisiana Softball picked up an 8-0 run rule victory over South Alabama in game 2 of their SBC weekend series.
The Cajuns got off to a hot start, scoring 5 runs through the first two innings of the game. Pitcher Sam Ryan helped keep the momentum with the Louisiana, throwing a complete game shutout with 3 strikeouts and 4 hits allowed.
Outfielder Maddie Hayden celebrated her senior night on Friday and played lights out in the victory. Hayden went 2-4 at the plate, provided 3 runs for the Cajuns, and robbed a potential 2 run home run to keep the Jaguars scoreless in the top of the 6th inning.
"It was a great night. You know, some of the things that happened, every senior wishes that they can have that kind of night on their senior night. And it doesn't always happen. So really, i just want to like, thank god for that. I felt him with me tonight and yeah, i gave it all to god. That's my motto for tonight."
The win over South Alabama on Friday night also gave Louisiana their first series win since late March. Head Coach Alyson Habetz was thrilled to see her girls close the door early and take the series win.
"We've been wanting to do that all year. You know, so to finally do that on a day where we actually capture a series for the first time is huge because, you know, to give momentum, too, you know, but have that, like we've been talking about, all gas, no brakes, and put somebody away, and they finally did, which was awesome."
The Cajuns will conclude their weekend series against South Alabama on Saturday. First pitch from Lamson Park is set for 2:00 p.m.
