New York Gremlins Capture Chiefs’ Challenge with wins over NE Drillers and Hill United on Championship Sunday at Simcoe ON

The New York Gremlins won the Chiefs’ Challenge on Sunday for the third consecutive year. The newest Gremlin, Lucio Retamar of Argentina was the hero, launching a 3-run home run off starter Marco Diaz, to give the Gremlins a come-from-behind 8-6 victory.

The Gremlins overcame a 5-1 deficit in their morning semi-final game to defeat the NE Drillers 9-4.

In the championship game, the Gremlins fell behind quickly, 5-1 in the second, but stormed back with four runs in the bottom of the second to tie the game at 5. Hill United took a one run lead, 6-5 with a run in the fourth before the big blow of the game, the three-run-game-winning home run by Lucio Retamar in the fifth inning. Jack Besgrove was stellar in relief, setting down nine batters for save in relief.

Fifth-Inning Burst Enough To Lead HILL UNITED CHIEFS Past Bear Creek Express

HILL UNITED CHIEFS defeated Bear Creek Express 9-2 on Sunday thanks in part to seven runs in the fifth inning. HILL UNITED CHIEFS opened the scoring in the bottom of the first thanks to two singles. HILL UNITED CHIEFS first got on the board when BRUNO MOTRONI singled, scoring one run. David Galeno singled, which helped Bear Creek Express tie the game at two in the top of the second. HILL UNITED CHIEFS flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the fifth, scoring seven runs on seven hits to take a 9-2 lead.

The biggest blow in the inning was a home run to center field by BRADLEY EZEKIEL that drove in two. Justin Schofield stepped in the circle first for Bear Creek Express. He gave up four hits and four runs over four and one-third innings, striking out nine and walking three. MARCO DIAZ opened the game for HILL UNITED CHIEFS. The starting pitcher allowed four hits and two runs over five innings, striking out six and walking two. Galeno led Bear Creek Express with two runs batted in from the number nine spot in the lineup. The infielder went 1-for-1 on the day. Jordan Pomeroy, Jeff Lyons, Galeno, and Thomas Enoka each collected one hit for Bear Creek Express. EZEKIEL went 1-for-2 at the plate as the outfielder led the team with two runs batted in. MOTRONI and LENNY VILLALVAZO each collected two hits for HILL UNITED CHIEFS. MOTRONI stole two bases. HILL UNITED CHIEFS worked the count all day, piling up five walks. HILL UNITED CHIEFS stole four bases in the game.

Cole Evans Leads NY Gremlins Past NorthEast Drillers

Cole Evans collected three hits in four at bats, as NY Gremlins defeated NorthEast Drillers 18O 9-5 on Sunday. Evans hit a solo home run to left field in the sixth inning, doubled in the fifth inning, and doubled in the second inning. NY Gremlins rallied for the victory despite trailing 4-0 in the second. NorthEast Drillers 18O were the first to get on the board in the first when Marshall Kronk doubled, scoring two runs. Blaine Milheim homered to center field, scoring two runs in the top of the second for the NorthEast Drillers 18O. NY Gremlins made the score 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning when Jerome Raemaki hit a solo home run to center field, and Evans doubled, scoring one run. NY Gremlins flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the sixth, scoring six runs on nine hits to take a 9-4 lead. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Zenon Winters that drove in two. Cam Schiller hit a solo home run to center field in the top of the seventh for the NorthEast Drillers 18O. Kuba Osicka earned the win for NY Gremlins. The reliever gave up three hits and one run over five and one-third innings, striking out eight and walking one. Huemul Mata took the loss for NorthEast Drillers 18O. The right-handed pitcher went five innings, surrendering eight runs on 11 hits, striking out six and walking three. Pablo Migliavacca stepped in the circle first for NY Gremlins. The starting pitcher, Pablo Migliavacca allowed four hits and four runs over one and two-thirds innings, striking out one and walking two. NY Gremlins tallied 15 hits in the game. Winters, Raemaki, Evans, and Ben Enoka each drove in two runs for NY Gremlins. Mathieu Roy and Blake Hunter each collected multiple hits for NY Gremlins. NY Gremlins were sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Nick Mullins had the most chances in the field with 10. Milheim went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead NorthEast Drillers 18O in hits. Kronk and Milheim each drove in two runs for NorthEast Drillers 18O. NorthEast Drillers 18O turned one double play in the game. NorthEast Drillers 18O were sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Juan Zara had the most chances in the field with six.

NY Gremlins Captures Lead Late In Victory Over HILL UNITED CHIEFS

NY Gremlins snatched the lead late in their 8-6 victory over HILL UNITED CHIEFS on Sunday. NY Gremlins were down 6-5 in the bottom of the fifth inning when Lucio Retamar homered to center field, scoring three runs. Jerome Raemaki collected three hits in four at bats in the win. Raemaki hit a solo home run to center field in the first inning, singled in the second inning, and singled in the fourth inning.

HILL UNITED CHIEFS opened the scoring in the first after BRUNO MOTRONI singled, scoring two runs. NY Gremlins scored one run in the bottom of the first on a solo home run to center field by Raemaki on the seventh pitch of the at-bat. HILL UNITED CHIEFS added to their early lead in the top of the second inning when an error scored one run, and SHANE BOLAND homered to left field, scoring two runs.

He went four and one-third innings, surrendering three runs on six hits, striking out four and walking two. Kuba Osi?ka stepped in the circle first for NY Gremlins. He surrendered four hits and five runs (four earned) over one and one-third innings, striking out one and walking one. ROMAN GODOY led things off in the circle for HILL UNITED CHIEFS. The starting pitcher allowed eight hits and five runs over one and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking none. Pablo Migliavacca appeared in relief for NY Gremlins. NY Gremlins tallied 14 hits in the game. Retamar seized on their opportunities, leading NY Gremlins with three runs batted in from the number nine spot in the lineup. The right fielder went 1-for-3 on the day. Ochoa went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead NY Gremlins in hits. Zenon Winters, Hunter, and Raemaki each collected multiple hits for NY Gremlins.

SHAILES and MOTRONI were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for HILL UNITED CHIEFS. BOLAND and MOTRONI each drove in two runs for HILL UNITED CHIEFS. HILL UNITED CHIEFS were sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. MOTRONI made the most plays with six.
