Day 4 Results at WBSC Men’s World Cup Qualifier

Group A, Saturday, June 15

Czechia beat Australia 7-6 in a close game at Estadio Fernando M. Ortiz. Czechia’s Jakub Osi?ka earned the win, while Australia’s Mathew Beckett took the loss.

Venezuela edged the Philippines 3-2 in extra innings at Estadio Mundialistas Hermosillenses. Luis Miguel Colombo Perez got the win for Venezuela, and Jehanz Maristela Coro was tagged with the loss for the Philippines. Carlos Alfonso Alvarez Morales homered for Venezuela.

Mexico shut out the Dominican Republic 4-0 at Estadio Fernando M. Ortiz. Jose Gustavo Valdez Chaparro pitched a complete game for Mexico, while Luiyi Rosario Mena took the loss for the Dominican Republic. Christian Alejandro del Valle Enriquez homered for Mexico.

In the final game, Czechia defeated the Philippines 4-2 at Estadio Mundialistas Hermosillenses. Michal Holobrádek earned the win for Czechia, and Juliuz Rosh dela Cruz suffered the loss for the Philippines. Mikuláš Klas and Tomáš Klein both homered for Czechia.

After these games, Venezuela remains undefeated at 5-0, while the Dominican Republic falls to 3-2. Mexico, Australia, and Czechia are all tied at 2-3, and the Philippines sit at 1-4.

Czechia 7, Australia 6

The Czech Republic defeated Australia 7-6 in an exciting game in Hermosillo. George Harris was the star for the Czechs, going 2-for-3 with a home run, 5 RBIs, and a sacrifice fly. Mat?j Ryšavý also had a big game, scoring 3 runs and collecting 2 hits.

For Australia, Hayden Mathews led the way with 3 hits, including 2 home runs, and 4 RBIs[1]. Scott Patterson added a home run and an RBI.

Jakub Osi?ka earned the win for the Czech Republic, allowing 6 runs over 7 innings while striking out 13 batters[1]. Mathew Beckett took the loss for Australia, giving up 3 runs in 3 innings of relief.

David Galeno Betancourt and Engelbert Herrera each had two hits. Luis Miguel Colombo Perez earned the win with 2.2 scoreless innings of relief, striking out six.

For Philippines, Kenneth Torres tripled and scored a run, while Justine John Rosales drove in their lone RBI. Reagan Parco took the loss, allowing two runs over five innings.[1]

Mexico 4, Dominican Republic 0

Mexico’s José Gustavo Valdez Chaparro tossed a brilliant 7-inning complete game shutout, allowing just 3 hits while striking out 7 to lead Mexico to a 4-0 victory over the Dominican Republic.[1]

The offensive star was catcher Christian Alejandro Del Valle Enriquez, who went 3-for-3 with a double, 2 home runs, and 3 RBIs.[1] Jesus Rene Cardona Bustamante also drove in a run for Mexico.[1]

For the Dominican Republic, José Alejandro Reyes Rosario, Elias Alberto Valerio Ayala, and Juan Arias each collected one hit.[1] Starter Luiyi Rosario Mena took the loss, allowing 3 runs (1 earned) over 5.2 innings.[1]

Mexico took advantage of 3 Dominican errors in the field to score some unearned runs.[1] The Dominican offense struggled, managing just 3 hits and no runs against Mexico’s stellar pitching performance.[1]

Czechia 4, Philippines 2

Hermosillo, Mexico – In the final game of Day 4 at the WBSC Men’s Softball World Cup 2024 Group A, Czechia emerged victorious over the Philippines, 4-2, at Estadio Mundialistas Hermosillenses.

Czechia’s starting pitcher, Michal Holobrádek, was brilliant on the mound, tossing a complete game and allowing just two runs (one earned) on four hits while striking out ten. Holobrádek’s dominant performance earned him the win, improving his record to 1-0 with a 0.72 ERA in the tournament.

Offensively, Czechia was powered by a pair of home runs. Mikuláš Klas got things started with a solo shot in the third inning, and Tomáš Klein followed with a two-run blast in the fourth to extend the lead. Klein finished the game 1-for-3 with two RBIs, while Klas went 1-for-1 with an RBI and two runs scored.

For the Philippines, starting pitcher Juliuz Rosh dela Cruz took the loss, giving up three runs (two earned) on four hits and three walks over three innings. Jehanz Maristela Coro pitched well in relief, allowing just one run on two hits while striking out five in three innings of work.

Justine John Rosales provided a bright spot for the Philippines, going 1-for-3 with a triple and a run scored. Francis Generoso also contributed with an RBI single in the seventh inning.

With the win, Czechia improves to 2-3 in the tournament, while the Philippines fall to 1-4. The teams will have a rest day before the final day of group play on Sunday, June 16th, which will determine the seeding for the playoffs.
