0 4

Pippa Passes, KY: The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles (14-28) hosted a strong Midway University Eagles (28-11) squad on April 26th in a doubleheader. The Pippa Passes club would get an elite pitching performance in the nightcap, and come away with a big split.

MU-14; Alice Lloyd-3

The Caney Creek Club fell in the opener as they were limited to just 4 hits.

Midway scored 1 in the first on a double and added 1 in the second on a fielder’s choice to jump up 2-0. They then teed off in the third and fourth.

In the third, a home run and double produced 4 big scores (6-0). They followed that up one inning later when 2 more bombs gave them 5 scores, and a commanding 11-0 cushion.

The Lady Eagles finally dented the scoreboard in their half of the fourth as a Maleigh McDaniel double and 3 singles brought home 3 runs (11-3).

However, MU earned all of those runs right back in the fifth when four well-placed singles produced 3 scores (14-3). ALC then went down in order to end the contest.

The Lady Eagles managed 4 hits on the day, with McDaniel’s double being the big hit. Ellie Keene drove in 2 RBIs.

Midway won the hitting battle, 13-4, and played error-free, compared to Alice Lloyd’s 2 errors.

Pitcher Haley Howell gave up 8 hits and 5 runs in 3.1 innings. Kursten Napier and Carly Creech also saw work on the mound.

GAME TWO
MU-1; Alice Lloyd-2

The Pippa Passes ladies received a dominant pitching performance to take the second outing and earn a split for the day.

The guests reached the scoreboard out of the gate as they used an error and sacrifice fly to jump ahead 1-0.

However, ALC responded in their first chance. Baylie Compton (LF) opened up the day with a single and stole second. After she advanced to third on a fielder’s choice, she would proceed to brazenly steal home and knot the score at 1-1.

In the bottom of the fourth, with two outs, Alexis Morris (2B) would single to left. Next, Lyndsey Adkins (1B) approached the plate and promptly smoked a double to right to score her teammate (2-1).

After the turn of events, the score would remain unchanged as the contest entered the final inning.

In the seventh inning, the Central Kentucky Eagles would get a clutch single, then see the runner promptly steal her way to third. Now, despite the tying run being so close to home, ALC pitcher Baylee Cox coolly whiffed the next batter and gave up an easy grounder to end the contest and chalk up a “W’ in the Pippa Passes column, much to the crowd’s delight.

For ALC, Adkins had the big double and drove in an RBI.

Pitcher Mckenzie Brewer threw the opening trio of innings and allowed just 1 hit and 1 run. McDaniel then threw the middle 3 innings, giving up just 2 hits. Cox then closed out the final inning allowing just 1 hit. The three combined to give up 4 hits, 1 run, and 0 walks while striking out 4, in a virtuoso performance.

Both clubs had 4 hits while ALC led in errors, 2-1.
