0 10

WICHITA, Kan. – For the second time in her career, Friends University junior Laila Spracklen has been named the KCAC Pitcher of the Week, the conference office announced today (Apr. 4). Spracklen also received the award following a victory over Southwestern College in last year's regular season finale.

Spracklen continued her ascent into the elite group of KCAC pitchers, winning three games this past week in five appearances. She posted a 1.80 ERA and struck out 36 batters against only four walks for a sizzling 10.8 K/7 ratio.

Her week was highlighted by blanking No. 22 Ottawa University on just two hits last Tuesday (Mar. 29) over seven innings while striking out nine and walking none.

The San Diego, Calif. native then tied her career-high of 11 strikeouts in another complete-game victory over McPherson College.

Spracklen is now tied for second in the KCAC with nine wins on the season and is also second in the league with 122 strikeouts.

"I'm really proud of Laila these past few weeks of conference!" said Friends softball head coach Suzanne Unruh. "After being injured last spring season and stepping up to be our game one pitcher this year, she has shown tremendous leadership on the mound."

Spracklen and the Falcons are in action later tonight vs. Central Christian College, with the first game set to start at 5 pm at Two Rivers Youth Complex.
