Sports briefs: Marin Catholic, Redwood ranked as top-five softball teams in Div. IV

A pair of Marin teams were recognized by Cal Hi Sports recently for their outstanding spring campaigns. Marin Catholic and Redwood, the top two teams in the MCAL, were both named as top-five Division IV teams in the state.

The Wildcats (14-1) came in as the No. 2 team in Division IV while the Giants (17-2) followed close behind at No. 4. MC’s only loss this season came at the hands of Redwood but the eventual league champs got revenge in a 2-0 win on the last game of the season.

Marin Catholic also ranked as the No. 29 team in the state, regardless of division, in Cal Hi Sports final season rankings.

Boys basketball

Marin Catholic’s AJ Rohosy and San Marin’s Tyson Geraci were named to the San Francisco Chronicle’s All-Star team on June 30.

The Chronicle also named Healdsburg senior Dylan Hayman as the North Bay Player of the Year.

Little League

Sunday was the end of the road for the Mill Valley Intermediate 50-70 All-Star team as it fell 15-5 to Alameda in Section 1 play.

The District 3 champs were led by Grayson Roberts (two hits) and Cooper Mitchel, who threw two innings with four strikeouts.

Baseball

The Novato Knicks dropped a pair of games to the Lincoln Potters over the weekend, falling 8-2 on Saturday and 10-4 on Sunday.

Jake Tirk and Nick George led the Knicks on the mound on Sunday, combining to allow no earned runs in five innings with five strikeouts. Offensively, Nick Simmons and Chris Brue went 2 for 5, with Brue adding an RBI, while Harry Mauterer went 1 for 4 with an RBI

On Saturday, Tyler Hellems struck out six with three hits allowed in three innings and Xavier Ramirez smashed a solo home run for Novato.
