[Softball] Midland Takes Two from Softball

Doane Softball traveled to Fremont on Thursday and took on Midland in a doubleheader. The Warriors posted a pair of shutouts in defeating the Tigers, 3-0 and 8-0, on the day. The losses were the first for the Tigers in conference play as they fell to 17-14 overall and 4-2 in the GPAC.

 

Game One
Midland scored their three runs in the 4th inning and were able to work around several Doane scoring opportunities. The Tigers stranded nine runners in the game, out-hitting the Warriors, 6-5.

Doane received two hits apiece from Kayla Miller (FR/Yuciapa, Cali.) and Alicia Vint (SO/Onalaska, Wash.). Kailyn Wiseman (JR/Sutton, Neb.) had one hit and was on base two more times after being hit by a pitch. Angelina Esqueda (FR/Las Vegas, Nev.) picked up the last of the Tiger base hits.

Josie Schnakenberg (JR/Wahoo, Neb.) threw 6.0 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits and two walks with six strikeouts.

 

Game Two
Midland scored runs in four of the five innings they batted. Of the Warriors eight runs in the game, four were unearned as Doane committed four errors.

Shelby Downard (SO/Marysville, Kan.) threw 4.0 innings, allowing eight runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out four. Cecily Kaluza (JR/Vallejo, Calif.) recorded two outs before the final run scored.

Doane was limited to a pair of hits in the game, one apiece for Esqueda and Vint.
