Mariners lose but do not get no-hit, Lookout Landing readers get many, many hits in SoftbaLL

could have been much worse, to be quite honest

A Saturday that started off with a bang and ended with a whimper

As the sun beat down on the softball fields at Woodland Park, game two was tied 2-2 in the top of the fifth and final inning. The first game was a 25-1 drubbing of Team Two by Team One. Game two had proven to be a much tighter game. The mighty John Trupin strode to the plate with one runner on. Right fielder Matthew Roberson readied himself to climb the giant ass hill in right field and possibly climb the fence in case the lefty-hitting Trupin did indeed launch one his way. The pitcher Young Matthew fired in a few pitches, too low and too high. His fourth pitch was right in zone and John Trupin did not miss. He uncorked a long fly ball that flew well past the outstretched glove of Roberson at the top of the fence and Trupin further solidified his SoftbaLL Tall Tale status of casually smashing tape measure home runs using softballs consisting of questionable integrity.

Pitcher Leonard Su closed out the bottom of the inning and the game with relative ease, finishing up a very strong outing. Since this is a Mariners blog, the game ended on an obligatory TOOTBLAN by staff writer Grant Bronsdon, who will never, ever not be extremely aggressive on the base paths. It’s a lifestyle, friends.

(smash that follow button, friends)

One night after a very emotional no-hitter, the Mariners continued to play poorly. Wade LeBlanc, freed from the shackles of having a opener, gave up plenty of runs just fine on his own, thank you very much. His night was over after 4 innings and 6 earned runs including 2 home runs. The Mariners were able to score a couple runs thanks to J.P. Crawford and Tim Beckham, but LeBlanc’s rough outing combined with a late game 3-run blast from Father Time himself, Albert Pujols, was far too much damage for the Mariners to overcome.

As I’ve said before in regards to this season, wins are good for player morale, but losses are good for draft picks, and I damn sure want to have better draft positioning than the Angels for at least the next 2 seasons if the Mariners are going to really compete in the dastardly AL West down the line.

That’s all I have to say about tonight’s game. But! I present to you, reader, A Very Common Occurrence at Angels Stadium, a four act play.
