MSWC 2019: Herrera’s two homers, 5 RBIs power Venezuela past Czech Republic

0 33

Engelbert Herrera homered twice and recorded 5 RBIs as Venezuela beat host Czech Republic by a score of 7-0, in five innings. The South American team will play tomorrow for the fifth place of the Men’s Softball World Championship 2019.

The second inning proved to be the key of the match. With two outs in the top of that inning, and a runner in first, Czech third baseman Jiri Nezbeda connected hard a pitch low in the zone but Herrera jumped and stuck his glove over the left field wall to rob the home run, and keep the game scoreless.

In the bottom of the second Herrera launched a 2-run homer to left field to give Venezuela the lead. Then John Zambrano singled up the middle to produce one more.

Jaroslav Brenik exited the game after 1.1 innings, with 5 hits and 3 runs, with 1 strikeout, and was charged with the loss. He was replaced by Michal Holobradek who ended the second inning, but couldn’t stop the bleed one inning later. Rafael Flores hit a solo shot to left field, Jorge Lima doubled and Urbaneja walked. With two runners on, Herrera stepped up to the home plate and hit a no-doubter to left field, to make it 7-0.

Luis Colombo pitched the five innings for the winning team giving up 2 hits and 1 walk, with 7 strikeouts.
