0 7

LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. — The SDC softball team hit the road for the first time this year but the rain was a factor in the second day of the NAIA Classic hosted by Hope International.

SDC was able to get two games in on Friday as the Hawks split, falling 2-1 to the University of Antelope Valley before beating Northwest Christian 7-4.

The split gives the Hawks a 3-1 record on the season.

In Game 1, the Hawks were shutout until the last inning. Kaylyn Rubalcava singled home Elizabeth Wilson to cut their deficit to 2-1. But the game ended with runners on the corners. Madelyn Jacobs went the distance for the Hawks striking out three. The Pioneers scored a run in the first an third innings.

The nightcap was more favorable for the Hawks.

From the get-go, the Hawks were able to put pressure on Northwest Christian. Alicia Corona started the game off with a walk and a stolen base. A wild pitch brought her home for the first run of the game in the first.

The Hawks added runs in the third and fourth before tallying a four-run sixth inning. Elizabeth Wilson led the Hawks with two hits and an RBI. Of the seven runs, the Hawks collected just four RBI.

Madison Bostick earned the win with a complete game allowing eight hits and the four earned runs while striking out five.

SDC will be back on the field on Tuesday as they travel to Saint Katherine before coming back home on Friday to host Marymount California.
