[Softball] Trellicoso sets stolen base record as Bees sweep Trolls

Back on the field for the first time in 10 days, St. Ambrose opened CCAC play by sweeping a doubleheader at Trinity Christian by scores of 8-2 and 1-0 Friday afternoon.

Along with moving to 16-6 overall and 2-0 in the conference, the wins were also special as senior outfielder Julie Trellicoso set the program's career stolen base record with her 70th and 71st career steals.

Entering the day tied with Casey Thompson, Trellicoso moved alone atop the list in the third inning of the second game. After a two-out walk, she swiped second for her 12th steal of the season and 70th of her career, breaking the record Thompson set as her career came to a close in 2003.

Then in the fifth, Trellicoso added to her own record. She reached on a fielder's choice before stealing second. That proved important as she later scored what proved to be the game's lone run on Ryan Friend's double.

Christina Pembrook made that run stand up. After pitching around a pair of hits and an error in the first inning, Pembrook allowed just two more hits over the final six frames. She struck out four in the complete-game shutout.

Megan Ballegeer collected two hits in the second game.

Overshadowed by Trellicoso's record-breaking steals was Friend's huge afternoon. She homered twice and drove in four runs in the 8-2 win in the opener, giving her five RBIs in the doubleheader.

Friend's first home run came as part of a four-run fifth inning. The Bees took advantage of three Troll errors and got a two-run homer from Friend and a run-scoring single from Madelyn Thompson to score four unearned runs to grab a 4-1 lead.
