[Softball] Bees sweep Pride on Krieger's walk-off hit

Morgan Krieger's single with two outs in the seventh inning scored Julie Trellicoso to give St. Ambrose a doubleheader sweep of Clarke Tuesday afternoon at the St. Vincent Athletic Complex.

The Bees won the second game 4-3 after taking the opener 5-2 to move to 14-6 on the year.

In a 3-3 tie in Game 2, Trellicoso started the bottom of the seventh inning with an infield hit. She moved to second on Libby Munsterman's sacrifice bunt. One out later, Krieger came through with her single up the middle. Trellicoso avoided the tag at the plate with a fantastic slide to score the winning run.

The late heroics made a winner of Christina Pembrook, who allowed five hits and two runs, both coming on solo home runs, over five innings.

She worked the first four innings and left with a 3-2 lead thanks to a three-run third inning for St. Ambrose. Pembrook brought in the Bees' first run with a sacrifice fly to score Logan Frerichs. Krieger and Ryan Friend followed with RBI singles for a 3-1 lead.

After Clarke (4-12) scored in the top of the fourth, Pembrook gave way to Ella Specht, who allowed one hit and an unearned run over two innings. Pembrook moved from center field back to the circle and pitched a scoreless seventh inning to earn the win.

Trellicoso and Madelyn Thompson joined Krieger with two-hit games in the nightcap.

Thompson also collected two hits in the first game, a 5-2 win.

Seven different Bees had at least one hit, with Megan Ballegeer finishing 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.

The Pride took a 2-0 lead in the third before SAU got a run back in the bottom of the inning on a squeeze bunt from Frerichs. In the fourth, Ballegeer doubled to score Munsterman to tie the game at 2-2. With runners on second and third, Trellicoso then beat out an infield single to short with Ashley Yattoni and Ballegeer both scoring on the play to give St. Ambrose a 4-2 lead.

Yattoni added an RBI ground out in the sixth to bring in the final Bee run.

Yattoni also got the win, allowing two runs over six innings. Specht earned the save by working a perfect seventh inning.
