[Softball] Point Shuts Out Lady Knights

LAURINBURG, N.C. - The St. Andrews University Softball team could not get their offense on track in dropping their opening conference doubleheader to Point University (Ga.) at home on Saturday 1-0 and 2-0.

GAME 1: POINT 1, SAU 0

Game one turned into a pitchers' duel for the first six innings with the teams remaining scoreless as Point's Ryan Simpson and SAU's Junior Nancy Amos (JR/Huntersville, NC) (7-2, 1.38 ERA) each threw complete games.

Unfortunately, Point were the first ones to break through with a run in the 6th inning on a RBI single while SAU could just manage one hit off Simpson with 9 strikeouts.

Amos allowed 5 hits and 1 earned run with no walks and 3 strikeouts but got saddled with the hard-luck loss.

Sophomore 3B Brennan Broadaway (SO/Oakboro, NC) had the lone hit for the Knights, a single, while junior 1B Lexi Dawson (JR/Garland, NC) reached base twice via walks.

GAME 2: POINT 2, SAU 0

Point then threw Simpson again in game two as they went for the win. SAU hit a little better off her, but could still not string consecutive hits together for a rally as they fell 2-0. Point scored their two runs in the 4th inning off game 2 starter, S.K. Brown (SO/Huntersville, NC).

Brown (3-5) ended up throwing 4 innings allowing 3 hits and 2 runs with no walks to pick up the loss. Broadaway then came on in the 5th to relieve Brown and finished the game allowing just one hit and 2 walks with a strikeout over 3 innings.

Broadaway again led the way offensively with another hit while Dawson and senior Katie Lougee (SR/Southport, NC) also recorded singles.

SAU falls to 12-8 overall and 0-2 in the AAC while Point goes to 10-10 and 3-1 in conference.

SAU will now remain home as they continue a stretch of consecutive spring break home series by hosting D-2 Davis & Elkins College (WV) on Monday at 2 PM.
