[Softball] Softball Falcons Receive Votes In NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Preseason Poll
WICHITA, Kan. – The Friends University Softball Falcons are receiving votes in the NAIA Coaches' Preseason Top 25 poll, the organization announced yesterday (Jan. 16).
The Falcons garnered three votes to come in as the 38th ranked team overall.
"It's great for our program and conference as well to be mentioned in the preseason poll," Friends head coach Tony Segovia said.
Friends finished last season with a 33-13 overall mark, with a 16-6 conference record that was good for third in the KCAC.
Other KCAC schools included in the poll were No. 13-ranked Ottawa University and (RV) Tabor College.
The Falcons will begin the 2018 season by competing in the TAMU Classic on Feb. 2-3 in Texarkana, Texas.
There, the Falcons will face Texas Wesleyan University followed by a pair of matchups against No. 20-ranked LSU-Alexandria.
The Falcons will then conclude action at the tourney against host Texas A&M University-Texarkana.
Overall, the Falcons will play eight non-conference games against squads that are currently ranked in the Top 25 or are receiving votes, including a twinbill at No. 1-ranked and defending NAIA National Champion Oklahoma City University on April 28.
"We always try to play a tough non-conference schedule to get us ready for league action," Segovia said.
"It's great that others are seeing that around the country. We have a lot of work to do, but our kids have been working really hard."
