[Softball] Farrell and Brown earn NAIA All-American Honors
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced the 2017 Softball All-America teams, selected by the NAIA All-America committee. Grand View junior Claudia Farrell (JR/Des Moines, Iowa) earned Second Team while senior teammate Devin Brown (SR/Indianola, Iowa) earned Honorable Mention honors. The All-America teams are comprised of First Team, Second Team and Honorable Mention selections.
Farrell claimed her third all-America honor after being chosen the Heart of America Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year for the second-straight season. She finished the season with a 25-7 record and 1.28 ERA, striking out 239 in 202.0 innings while tossing 26 complete games in her 30 starts. She ranked No. 6 in the nation for wins (25), No. 15 for innings pitcher per a game (6.121), No. 18 for earned run average (1.28), and No. 20 in hits allowed (4.85).
Brown posted the highest batting average for Grand View, batting .397 in 57 games. She scored 60 runs, roped 24 doubles and six home runs while driving in 25 to couple with 25 stolen bases. She ranked No. 3 in the nation for total doubles (24), No. 10 in doubles per a game (.421), No 14 in total runs scored (60) and No. 17 in total hits (79).
