Brighton Resort Isn't Done Yet: Surprising Move Extends Utah's Ski Season

0 11

What’s that? Brighton Resort, Utah, didn’t hear no bell.

The ski area, which planned to close on May 3 and wrap up an often warm season that’s been hard on Utah’s resorts, just had a second wind. Now, Brighton plans to remain open until May 10, 2026.

The decision, the resort said in a press release, stemmed from recent snowfall (Brighton got more than a foot of it in the past week) and “sustained late-season enthusiasm.”

“We’ve had a great late-season boost from recent storms, and the interest from our guests made the decision easy,” said Brighton Resort spokesperson Jared Winkler. “Spring skiing is always a special time up here, and we’re excited to keep it going.”

In the meantime, tickets to Brighton are only $49 as the resort’s final chapter, known as the “Meltdown,” marches on a bit longer.

It’s surely a welcome development for Utah’s skiers and snowboarders. Like other Western states, Utah had a rough go at it this winter. While there have been powder days, much of the season has seen little snow and warm weather. Then, in March, a heat wave arrived, baking the snow that was still hanging on. Many resorts shut down early in response.

Brighton, which is known for its May skiing, kept going, though, even as its neighbor, Solitude, closed.

Just two other resorts in Utah remain open. Brian Head plans to close on May 3. Before then, it’s hosting a $1 ski day special this Friday, May 1 (no kidding!). Snowbird has shifted to a weekends-only operating schedule, Friday through Sunday. It didn't have a closing date, but just announced plans to close on May 10.

What should you do with that information? Go skiing, probably. We understand wanting to throw in the towel on this terrible, no-good season. But we think taking advantage of it while it lasts is the way to go. A month from now, you’ll be glad you did.
