Two Utah Ski Resorts Confirm Closing Date as End of Tough Season Nears

0 27

Just four Utah ski resorts remain open as a season that will mostly be remembered for the wrong reasons winds down. Warm temperatures and little snow were the norm, causing many mountains to close earlier than they normally do.

And now, two of the state’s final hangers-on have confirmed when they, too, will end the season.

Brighton, as of now, is targeting May 3. So is Brian Head. Both closures will come earlier—but not that much earlier—than they did last winter.

At Brighton, a final leg of operations known as the “Meltdown” has arrived. During it, Brighton focuses operations on the Crest 6 lift, with loads of freestyle features to choose from. Tickets are cheap, starting at $49.

“The Meltdown isn’t just a bonus—it’s a celebration,” a blurb on the ski resort’s website reads. “A springtime ritual for the Brighton community where the lifts keep spinning, the sun hits just right, and the terrain park becomes a playground for progression.”

Meanwhile, as of Tuesday, Brian Head was operating two chairlifts, the Giant Steps Express and Blackfoot.

“We are open daily through April 26th, and our closing day is scheduled for May 3rd,” the Brian Head snow report reads. “Don’t pack up your gear just yet—some of the best days of the season are still ahead.”

Another of Utah’s spring haunts, Alta Ski Area, previously announced it would close on April 26, which is normal for the mountain. Alta’s neighbor, Snowbird, hasn’t publicly confirmed a closing date yet. Last winter, Snowbird stayed open until Memorial Day weekend.

And despite the overall warmth this season, Alta and Snowbird are still hanging on to solid snowpacks. Both resorts have consistent coverage, per their webcams.

It’s been a challenging season for most mountains across the West, but if you’re in the right place, it’s not over yet. Our advice? Get out there and take advantage of the snow that’s still left.

  • Alta Ski Area: April 26
  • Brighton: May 3
