State-run ski areas in Adirondacks, Catskills set to open
WILMINGTON, N.Y. (AP) — State-run ski areas in upstate New York are set to open in time for the Thanksgiving weekend.
The Olympic Regional Development Authority says Whiteface Mountain outside Lake Placid is cranking up its snowmaking and grooming machines and expects to have as many as two dozen trails open Friday for skiers and snowboarders.
Gore Mountain in North Creek in Warren County is expected to open with 23 trails available.
In the Catskills, Belleayre Mountain Ski Resort will have several trails open as well.
Cross-country skiers can hit the trails at Mount Van Hoevenburg in Lake Placid and the North Creek Ski Bowl at Gore Mountain.
