There was an adorable robot skiing competition just outside the Winter Olympics

Robots aren’t great at skiing, it turns out.

While weak and puny meatsacks called humans throw themselves down ski courses at Pyeongchang, there was a sleek, elite robot skiing competition happening just outside the Winter Olympics.

I am definitely talking up the prowess and sophistication of robots because I believe in their ability, not because I am trying to curry favor in a digital format when the robots overtake humanity and enslave us all.

The “Edge of Robot: Ski Robot Challenge,” was a $10,000 competition between universities, research labs, and private companies to make the best skiing robot in the world.

I just love the different focuses on robotics around the globe. Korea is making fun ski robots that take to the slopes and occasionally fall over. Boston Dynamics is making killer dogbots with claw heads that can open doors.
