Fatal officer-involved shooting under investigation in Poughkeepsie
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- An investigation is underway after an officer-involved shooting in the town of Poughkeepsie. Police said the suspect was armed with a sword.
The incident took place around 2:15 p.m. Thursday at a home on Fair Oaks Drive. Police were told a man was attacking members of the Dutchess County Mobile Crisis Team with a sword.
At the scene, police entered the home and found one man with a head injury. The suspect was also located inside. Police said there was a confrontation between the suspect, who they said was armed, and responding officers. An officer fired shots from his department issued handgun during the confrontation, police said.
The suspect was struck. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation was turned over to the New York Attorney General's Office and the New York State Police. It remains ongoing.
