Man charged with murder in Dutchess Co. shooting death
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A Dutchess County man has been charged with murder in an October shooting in the town of Pleasant Valley, Dutchess County District Attorney Anthony Parisi announced on Monday. Thomas Case, 53, of Pleasant Valley is facing multiple charges.
On Oct. 5, 2024, New York State Police and the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on Rawls Road in Pleasant Valley, a state police press release said. Upon arrival, officers allegedly found Case with a stab wound and another victim, 20-year-old Anthony G. Cuozzo of Pleasant Valley, with gunshot wounds.
After securing the scene, officers began life-saving procedures for both victims until emergency services arrived and transported them to local area hospitals, police said. Cuozzo was reportedly pronounced dead at Vassar Hospital. Case checked himself out of the hospital following surgery and returned to the residence, police said.
According to state police, the initial investigation into the incident found that, during a confrontation between the two, Cuozzo stabbed Case once in the chest. The 53-year-old then allegedly shot Cuozzo multiple times, Dutchess County authorities said.
Charges for Case
- Second-degree murder
- Second-degree criminal possession of a weapon
Case was arraigned in Dutchess County Court. He was remanded without bail and his next court date is scheduled for Jan. 29.
