Second arrest made in fatal Amsterdam shooting
AMSTERDAM, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- A second arrest was made in a fatal shooting on James Street on December 18. Freyland Sanyet-Malpica, 40, faces multiple charges for his alleged involvement.
On December 18, around 7:20 p.m., the Montgomery County 911 dispatch center received numerous calls reporting shots fired near 60 James Street. When police arrived, they located a 34-year-old man in the roadway.
The man was later identified as Robert Green Jr, who succumbed to his injuries at Albany Medical Center, a day later. As police began investigating, they arrested Angel Morales, 30, for murder in the second degree, a class A-1 felony.
According to police, they continued to investigate leading to a second arrest. Sanyet-Malpica was arrested on December 30 after the investigation reportedly revealed he was involved in the shooting.
Sanyet-Malpica was found on Slater Street and taken into custody as police executed a search warrant. He was charged with murder in the second degree, a class A-1 felony and criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a class C felony.
He was later arraigned in the Amsterdam City Court. He was remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility without bail.
According to police, the investigation remains ongoing, and the weapon used in the crime has not been recovered. Further arrests and charges are possible, police said.
