An Introduction to Marine Diesel Engines is a practical, one-day course designed to give participants a clear understanding of how marine diesel engines operate and how to care for them effectively. Aimed at boat owners, aspiring marine engineers, and anyone wanting to improve their confidence around engine maintenance, the course focuses on the essential knowledge needed to operate and look after a marine diesel engine safely and reliably.
Delivered as a full-day course on a Saturday, the programme combines straightforward theory with practical discussion to cover key topics such as diesel engine fundamentals, fuel, cooling and lubrication systems, routine maintenance, fault recognition, and basic troubleshooting. Particular emphasis is placed on preventative care and understanding common problems before they lead to breakdowns.
By the end of the day, participants will have a solid grounding in marine diesel engine operation, the confidence to carry out basic checks and maintenance, and a better understanding of when specialist assistance is required.
