Malahide Yacht Club Dinghy Regatta 2025 — Calm to Competition!

The 2025 Malahide Yacht Club Dinghy Regatta, incorporating the Kona Nationals and Mirror Eastern Championship, showcased both the unpredictability of Irish weather and the flexibility of the MYC sailing community.

Originally scheduled for Saturday 11th October, the forecast of flat calm forced organisers to make the difficult call to postpone Saturday’s racing. Thanks to the quick thinking of the Race Committee and the incredible cooperation of volunteers, competitors, and safety crews, the full regatta (except the Mirrors, who continued their two-day event) was successfully rescheduled to Sunday 12th October — a day that dawned with perfect racing conditions on the Broadmeadows Estuary.

Race Officer Alexander Walsh and his team delivered a superb day’s sailing, running multiple races across ILCA, Kona, Optimist, and mixed-fleet classes. The breeze filled in steadily through the day, providing challenging yet enjoyable conditions for sailors of all levels.

A True Club Effort

Commodore Margaret Fay expressed her thanks to all who contributed:

“It was a real testament to the strength of our MYC community. Moving an entire regatta with less than 48 hours’ notice and still seeing so many sailors, safety boat crews, race officers, and volunteers step up was remarkable. As this is my last large Regatta as Commodore, I want to say how very proud I am of the teamwork shown across every fleet.”

Special thanks go to the race management and safety teams, the shore crews, and the junior coaches along with Race Officer Graham Smith who guided the Regatta Fleet sailors to their first competitive outing.

A Fantastic End to the Season

The MYC Dinghy Regatta 2025 brought the curtain down on another successful summer of sailing at Malahide Yacht Club, from junior coaching and ILCA racing to vibrant social sailing evenings.
With plans already underway for next year’s event, this year’s regatta will be remembered not only for its fine racing but also for the spirit of flexibility and community that made it happen.

Well done to all competitors, and thank you to everyone who made the event possible
