Royal Cork Yacht Club 420 Update
Following on from a successful summer for Royal Cork Yacht Club 420's, the Irish 420 Class recently hosted their Leinster Championships in Malihide YC over the weekend of 4th & 5th October.
With Storm Amy providing strong winds for the weekend, the decision was made to cancel all of Saturday's racing prior to the event and kick off racing early Sunday morning. With a 20 boat, 4 races were completed in a steady 20 knots creating some challenging conditions for all sailors. 5 Royal Cork sailors braved the storm to travel up to the event with all of them putting in a fantastic performance.
Cora McNaughton sailing with Matt Mapplebeck finished 1st overall and securing the domestic qualification for the Youth Sailing World Championships in December. Isha Duggan sailing with Sean Cronin finished 3rd overall.
Next on the Irish 420 Class calendar is the Mid Term 420 Camp followed by the Munster Championships hosted by Lough Derg YC.
