Crow’s Nest 08/28/25

0 206

I can’t believe I have to say it…….This is the final weekend of the 2025 CLYC season.  No more parties, no more racing, 2025 is finito… On Sunday, August 31st, starting at 5:30pm is the Annual Awards Dinner featuring the great culinary creations of Cynthia Lewerke.  Dinner will cost just $12/person. The food will be amazing and, of course, Andi Tisor will be fulfilling her last party obligation as Vice Commodore, a role she took on and put her predecessors to shame.

The Annual General Membership Meeting will start about 6:15-6:30 with the racing awards (CLYC Season and Traveling Trophies), service awards, The Blooper Award and the ceremonial exchanging of the flags to follow.

A special note; don’t forget to submit your last minute Blooper Nominations to Stu Oltrogge – stuartoltrogge@gmail.com

While the Labor Day Regatta doesn’t count toward season standings, it holds the power of the coveted Juno Cup… Each year, the last place sailor in the last race of the year in each fleet is “awarded” a piece of hardware so special, it’s dropped, kicked, shuffled, knocked over and locked in closets perpetually.  Good luck to everyone racing this weekend!

If you recall in the last Crows Nest, I mentioned how close the results were in every fleet… Well, they got closer, changes happened and the Fleet Champions have all been decided.  Those Champions are as follows:

Sorry, you’ll have to attend the Awards Dinner on Sunday to find out who those Champions are!  Come join the fun!

Oh you wanted to know who the next Vice Commodore and Board Members will be?  You should come to the Awards Dinner…

Last weekend 5 MCs made their way over to Pewaukee Yacht Club for the ILYA MC Championship. Great food, great people and great parties were sprinkled among the challenging sailing conditions for the very deep 65 boat fleet! The winds went from limit to limit over the three days – light air on Friday turned to a rip by Saturday afternoon which continued into Sunday morning. I can’t forget to mention the shifts, wow, the shifts were nuts!  For those of us who were not bald prior to the event, a strong hairline recession began by the end of it!

Some highlights from the regatta – Mark Tesar had a 2nd place finish in Race 4 and a 5th place finish in Race 6.  Stu Oltrogge had a 7th place finish in Race 4.  Dan Allen had a 3rd place finish in Race 3.  Leif Lundberg attended and made it through his first WINDY off lake MC Regatta (without a crew) which is a huge feat!

The real highlight is Todd Tesar. He had an amazing regatta, especially in the heavy breeze, showing that consistency pays off, finishing as the Top Master and 3rd overall after six hard fought races!  Congratulations Todd, well done!!!!

Even though the Club season is over, the regatta season continues…50+ boats will be joining Brad Price and his team at Little Egg Harbor Yacht Club in Beach Haven, NJ for E Scow Nationals next week.  On the 17th, Dan, Mark, Stu and Todd will be heading to Wisconsin, again… This time for MC Nationals at Mendota Yacht Club where 75 boats and counting are registered.

Sometime after this weekend, I’ll have a season wrapup with the final fleet standings, the perpetual racing award winners, the service award winners and more!  Until then…

Stay in the Clear Air.

Dan Allen
