July Thursday League – The Winners Are In!

The Royal Cork Yacht Club’s July Thursday Night League concluded in spectacular fashion last week, delivering everything sailors could hope for—glorious summer sunshine, a brisk breeze, and a perfectly designed course courtesy of race officer Kevin Lane and his dedicated team.

The final evening’s conditions couldn’t have been better, setting the stage for a fitting end to a competitive and enjoyable month of racing. As tradition dictates, the overall league winners were announced after the final race, with crews gathering to celebrate their achievements and camaraderie.

Non-Spinnaker Classes

In Non-Spinnaker ECHO, Magnet claimed third place, Cavatina secured second, but it was Prince of Tides, helmed by Frank Caul and John Molloy, that sailed to victory and lifted the trophy.
Meanwhile, in Non-Spinnaker IRC, Prince of Tides rounded out the podium in third, Cavatina repeated with a second-place finish, and Magnet, sailed by Kieran and Fiorentina, took the top spot.

Spinnaker Classes

Over in the Spinnaker ECHO division, Ellida earned a respectable third, followed closely by Don’t Dilly Dally in second. But the standout performance came from Obsession, Barry and Marina Rose’s Albin Express, which claimed the gold.
In Spinnaker IRC, it was Outrigger in third, Obsession in second, and Don’t Dilly Dally, Michael McCann’s Etchells, that came out on top to win the July league.

A Combined Effort

None of this would be possible without the tireless work of the club’s volunteers. Huge thanks go to all our race officers and their teams for delivering another smooth and competitive series. Gratitude also to Michael and Sean for managing the results, Bob Bateman for capturing the action through his lens, and Ann, Amy, and the rest of the clubhouse staff for taking such good care of everyone shoreside.

Congratulations to all the competitors who made the July league one to remember. With the August/September League starting this week, we’re already looking forward to more great evenings on the water.
