Crow’s Nest 07/10/25

0 3

The spectacle that is 4th of July in Clear Lake has come and gone… What can we say; it was another amazing fireworks display, one that seems to get better every year!  Wait a minute… We didn’t have a crazy pop-up storm… Add that to the list of 2025 oddities! My hope is you didn’t spend all your hard earned money placating the kids and carnies but did have a great time with the extravaganza provided year after year.

It’s go time friends! The ILYA E Scow Invitational begins today; as you go downtown for your morning coffee, morning walk or drive you’ll see volunteers out marking spots for dry sailing E scows, setting up barricades and making other final preparations for the arrival of some of the Inlands elite!  A few volunteer positions remain open if you’re available to help please go out and sign up now!  Volunteer Sign Up

Don’t forget during the regatta you have the opportunity to mingle with the sailors at the new Palms Rooftop Cabana on Saturday night.  Heavy hors d’oeuvres will be served and a cash bar will be available – tickets must be pre-purchased by midnight tonight, please head out and support the regatta and Yacht Club! Saturday Tickets

Speaking of parties… Don’t forget to mark your calendars for 6:30pm on July 19th; Marcus and Julie Lundberg will be hosting the next Club social event at their beautiful home on North Shore Dr.

Last weekend was the 4th of July Regatta and the end of the First Series.  The Saturday morning fleets were skunked by Mother Nature and her incessant need to dump rain on us, but the E Fleet finally got some racing in Saturday afternoon between the storms.  Race 1 in E fleet started out with a fantastic Westerly breeze around 15 or so; but hey guess what, it faded fairly quickly.  The fleet got one race completed and started Race 2, however, impending weather forced an abandonment.

Sunday morning brought the “new normal” Northerly breezes with lots of boat chop!  I’m thankful to have a fantastic chiropractor on speed dial after those races!   Below are the results of the 4th of July Regatta:

As I mentioned the First Series came to end with the 4th of July Regatta.  It was HOTLY contested in every single fleet, especially the Melges 15 class. A single misstep in races could cost you several places in the overall series!  Here’s the standings for the First Series:
