Welcoming our new Club boat
Some of you may already have noticed an unusual boat alongside our pontoons…This is our new ECHO 90 which was recently delivered from its manufacturer in Brittany and was purchased very largely thanks to the Sport Capital Grant funding received.
Though the NYC boat is unique so far in Ireland, the ECHO 90 has been in production for quite a number of years and is in active service in Glennans and many yacht clubs and training centres in France, Switzerland and further afield. Around 70 have been made and up to 4 boats are made annually in a small Brittany boatyard. It’s unique long ‘open deck’ designs allows for a maximum capacity of 12 people (though that could be a squeeze) and the craft boasts very specific characteristics making it a suitable boat for people with reduced mobility.
We have specified her with lazy jacks and sail bags and a furling headsail for ease of use as well as both symmetrical and asymmetrical spinnakers in order to train ‘the next generation of bow people’
We are currently planning various usage scenarios including junior training, adult sail training, sailablity but also bay outings for our members for the just the fun and pleasure of sailing and socialising on and off the water…more information to come so stay tuned!
