Cork Harbour Combined League and Royal Cork Yacht Club June League Conclude with Exciting Racing and Celebrations

The final races of the Cork Harbour Combined League and the RCYC June League took place last week, bringing to a close a fantastic month of sailing in Cork Harbour. While the fleets were somewhat reduced due to the concurrent ICRA Nationals and Sovereigns Cup in Kinsale, which drew many Royal Cork Yacht Club boats, there was no shortage of action or competition on the water.

Thursday Night Racing and June League Prizegiving

Despite a lighter turnout, Thursday evening’s racing proceeded smoothly, with a determined fleet taking to the harbour under the watchful eyes of race officials Richard Leonard, Geraldine Peretti, and Sean Dunphy. After the final races, sailors returned to the Royal Cork Yacht Club for the June League prizegiving, where the winners were announced:

  • Non-Spinnaker ECHO: Cavatina
  • Non-Spinnaker IRC: Magnet
  • Spinnaker ECHO: Ejine
  • Spinnaker IRC: Humdinger

Friday Finale – Wet, Windy, and Wonderful

Friday evening brought the grand conclusion of both the RCYC June League and the Cork Harbour Combined League. The weather added an extra edge to proceedings, with strong south-westerly gusts creating dynamic and challenging conditions – perfect for summer racing enthusiasts.

Thanks are due to Race Officer Michael McCann and his team, who ran an excellent final race in breezy conditions.

In the RCYC Friday Night League, the results were:

  • 3rd Place: Damacle
  • 2nd Place: Scribble
  • 1st Place and June League Winner: Lapwing, helmed by Conor Hanlon

A special thanks goes to Johanna Murphy & Sons, Estate Agents, for their continued support as league sponsors.
