Stem Marine to Debut 52-Foot Aluminum Cruiser
Stem Marine, an Italian shipyard known for constructing professional rescue and emergency vessels, has announced the upcoming debut of its first sailing yacht—the Stem 50. The 52-foot aluminum cruising boat will premiere at the 2025 Genoa International Boat Show, scheduled for September 18–23.
According to the builder, the Stem 50 is designed for extended offshore sailing, with a focus on safety, livability, and simplified handling for short-handed crews. The hull and deck are constructed entirely in aluminum, and the design includes a centerboard with torpedo keel, twin rudders, and reinforced bow and stern crash boxes to support offshore capability.
The boat features a protected cockpit covered by a rigid hardtop with integrated solar panels, a stern platform that converts to a beach area, and an outdoor galley—all features Stem Marine says are intended to enhance liveaboard comfort and functionality.
Naval architecture and interior layout were developed by French designer Nicolas Purnu, a former collaborator of the Marc Lombard Design Studio. Stem Marine also reports that offshore sailor Luca Sabiu contributed to optimizing the deck plan and sail setup.
As part of what the builder calls its “Easy Sailing” philosophy, the Stem 50 is designed for stress-free operation. The sail controls are led aft to the cockpit, and the boat comes equipped with electric winches and a furling system. The helm does away with traditional steering wheels in favor of simplified steering controls. Rigging hardware is supplied by Antal and Gottifredi Maffioli, and sails are by Elvstrøm.
Stem Marine emphasizes energy efficiency and long-range autonomy in the design, with lithium (LiFePO₄) battery banks, dual inverters, and solar charging systems included in the standard package.
Belowdecks, the Stem 50 is said to offer multiple layout options and a high level of customization. Clients can work with the shipyard’s in-house team to tailor the accommodations and materials to their needs.
The Stem 50 will be on display for the first time at the Genoa International Boat Show this September.
