Impressive start to the RCYC’s Keelboat Summer Series with the UK Sails May league.

0 2

Summer has finally arrived and with it has come the RCYC’s Keelboat Summer Series. The first week of the UK Sailmakers Ireland May league was a belter with fantastic weather and large numbers racing on both Thursday and Friday evening. Our first Saturday race of the summer was also ran so with three days of racing, there’s something for everyone.

Nearly 40 boats raced over the three days – what a turnout from our members!

On Thursday evening in light, beautiful conditions, we ran Spin and Non-Spin, IRC and ECHO and the Jenkins family’s S&S 34, Morning After won both IRC and ECHO in non-Spin. Fiona Young took the honours in Spin IRC aboard North Star and Ria Lyden was to the fore on Ellida, taking 1st place in Spin ECHO.

On Friday evening we had 20 boats racing to a moderate Southerly breeze with blue skies. Unfortunately the breeze died away later in the evening but it was a great evening just to be on the water. Friday evening’s are for Non-Spin ECHO and in 3rd place was Fiona Youngs North Star, in 2nd we had Andy Jenkins on Morning After and the winner on the night was Andrew Crosbie aboard his new Etchells, Knot on Call.

A sincere thank you to our sponsor, UK Sailmakers Ireland who provided the fantastic McWilliams wash bags as prizes.
