New additions to the RCYC Keelboat fleet compete as the April Keelboat league draws to a close.

0 30

The first RCYC Keelboat April league in a number of years draws to a conclusion this weekend. This league is being held over the four Saturdays in April, and with numbers racing increasing week on week we will certainly run the league again in 2026.

There was a slow start to the competition as the first week was cancelled due to high winds and sailors slowly coming out of hibernation! We have two great weeks of racing in light conditions so hopefully the fleet will get a nice breeze this week.

Last Saturday we had FOUR boats racing for the first time! Gary O’Neill and James Kelleher on their new Sigma 33, Conor O’Kelly in his Mini 6.5, Denis Byrne in his Elan 31 and we welcomed Darragh McCarthy back to club racing in his Sunfast 32. If this is a sign of things to come we’re going to have a fantastic, competitive racing season in 2025!

Ria Lyden is leading the charge aboard Ellida, leading in both Echo and IRC, with Sean Hanly on Luas second in both. John O’Connor in Fast Buck is currently third in Echo with Denis Byrne taking the honours in IRC last week putting him in contention in third place.

Thanks to Tom McGrath for being our race officer for the first two weeks.

FG this Saturday is at 13;25 so if your boat is in the water, this it is a great opportunity to test everything out before the Summer Series starts on the 1st and 2nd May.
