The 2024 RSGYC Annual Sailing Awards Winners are…..
The Awards are a celebration of the Royal St George Yacht Clubs Sailing Achievements of 2024, and of the members of the Royal St George Yacht Club. All winners are congratulated by the Sailing Committee in recognizing them as RStGYC Sailors & Club members with significant achievements during 2024. The evening was attended by over 100 guests including award nominees across seven prize categories.
The winners of 2024 RSGYC Annual Sailing Awards are:
Commodore’s Cup (Best Offshore Performance)
Chris Power Smith and the Crew of Aurelia – Line honours and IRC Victory in Kinsale Yacht Club’s 8 boat offshore Inistearaght Race, competed in Round Ireland Race, Cork Week, ISORA Night Race Bronze medal in RIC 4 Division.
Vice-Commodore’s Cup (Significant Dinghy Performance)
Sean Craig- ILCA 6 Masters National Championships 1st, Water Wag Nationals 1st, Water Wag Jubilee Cup (overall series) 1st, GP14 Leinster Championships 1st
O’Hanlon Cup (Best Cruise of 2024)
Brian & Siobhan D’Arcy – 2 year cruise from Barcelona via the Balearics to Vigo
Enriquetta Cup (Significant Keelboat Performance)
Fergus Mason & crew of ‘Viking’ Shipman 28 National Champions
Causeway Trophy (For Sportsmanship)
John Sheehy – John has significantly impacted Irish sailing by establishing the Melges 15 class and organizing its first European Championships. His commitment to team racing and fostering competitive sailing, particularly through the Elmo Trophy, highlights his outstanding contributions to the sport.
Youth Award (Significant contribution to the Club by a Youth Sailor)
Lucy Ives– 1st ILCA 6 Ulster Championships, ILCA UK National Championships 25th Gold fleet
The Kingstown Boat Club Cup (Significant International Performance)
Elysia O’Leary– Waszp Sail gp inspire Bermuda, 1st Girl, Waszp Sail Gp Inspire Grand Final San Fransisco, UK Waszp nationals champs and Euro Cup: 3rd girl, Waszp Datchet start of season champs – 2nd girl, 1st girl U21, Italian Switch Class Italian National Championships, 2nd Girl, 1st Girl U21, 3rd crewing at the Endeavour Cup (British helmsmen’s), Competed at the Waszp Games Copenhagen, Crewed on a J70 at Corinthian Europeans.
