OODs - Testing Testing - by: Mark Elkington
Hi OOD folks
Over the past year or so several club members have been working on the "fix" to our broadband problems at the club. As you might know we now have a fancy setup involving a microwave link across the estuary, with a backup mobile broadband which automatically kicks in if the main broadband isn't available. We have also moved the club website and supporting software (webcam, weather station etc.) across to a new fast server - somewhere in the cloud. The final step (fingers crossed) is to move the raceManager software from the PC in the racebox to our cloud server - with all the benefits that 24/7 professional mollycoddling in a data centre rather than a wooden hut will bring.
Before we can do the final switchover I do need to convince myself that my code working on the cloud server not only responds fast enough - but also gives the same results as the code running in the racebox. To do this I have press ganged my wife Mary to run the cloud version of the software on a laptop in the racebox at the same time as the OODs are running the race using the existing setup. This means for a few weeks there may be an extra body in the racebox. Please bear with us while we do this final testing - it should all be done by the end of February. BTW Mary takes her coffee, white no sugar.
thanks
Mark
