Emirates Team New Zealand have officially defended the America’s Cup for three years running!

The New Zealand team have won – becoming the first team in modern history to lift the trophy three times in a row, and what a campaign it’s been! The Challenger of Record, INEOS Britannia took two wins earlier in the week but the Kiwis proved stronger, and pushed on with absolute precision.

Peter Burling, ETNZ skipper told the race commentators: ‘What an awesome day, Barcelona has been absolutely amazing, and yeh, what an amazing feeling!’

As the Kiwi chase boat reached the AC75, jumping aboard to congratulate the team, Nathan Outteridge followed up with: ‘It’s been a huge journey, I’ve loved every minute of it… It’s the people – it’s all the people who are climbing on the boat right now, they’ve worked very hard… It’s a massive team effort, and I’m just honoured to be a part of it.’

The valiant INEOS Britannia finished their fight with heads held high. As the Challenger of Record, they’ve certainly put on a thrilling performance throughout the Louis Vuitton Cup and into the America’s Cup final but, for now, it just wasn’t enough.

In Skipper Ben Ainslie’s post race commentary, he said: ‘In my view, I think they’re the best team ever in the America’s Cup… Well done to them… It’s been a hell of a road through this event – to get to this final – and we had our moment in these finals, but at the end of the day the better team won.’

Ben finished with: ‘This isn’t going to be the end of the journey for us’

Co-Skipper Dylan Fletcher echoed this, saying: ‘I guess it’s disappointing right now, but It’s been a very successful campaign and we will come back stronger.’

It’s been a gripping 37th America’s Cup in Barcelona, and today is a day for the history books. Congratulations to Emirates Team New Zealand – what a defence, what a win!
